The
chief advisor to the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said
that propaganda will come on social media. Various types of propaganda will be
carried out from inside and outside the country in a very planned manner to
thwart the election. Pictures and videos will be created and released using AI.
This must be dealt with. As soon as a propaganda is composed, it must be
stopped so that it does not spread. In addition, the chief advisor has
instructed to make maximum preparations to deal with the 'worst case scenario'
surrounding the upcoming national parliament elections. The chief advisor's
press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, gave such instructions at a high-level meeting
of the government on the preparation for the election yesterday. The meeting
was held for more than two hours at the state guest house Jamuna. Later, the
press secretary held a press conference on these issues at the Foreign Service
Academy. He said that the meeting was held for about two hours on spreading
false information on social media, important appointments before the election,
training of election officials and control of the law and order situation.
In the meeting, the chief advisor said that many forces from
within and without will work to sabotage the elections. Attacks may come from
not small but big forces. This election will be challenging. No matter how many
storms come, we will have to overcome them. The government is moving ahead with
preparations to hold the 13th parliamentary elections before Ramadan in
February. He has asked to complete all election-related preparations by
November 15.
Quoting the Chief Advisor on the preparation for controlling
misinformation on social media, Shafiqul Alam said, "Propaganda will come
on social media, various types of propaganda will be carried out in a very
planned manner from inside and outside the country to thwart the election. AI
pictures and videos will be created and released. This must be handled. As soon
as a propaganda is created, it must be stopped so that it cannot spread.
Dr. Yunus said, to make the next election beautiful and festive, we must reach
out to the people. People must be made aware of the election principles,
polling station rules, how to vote, what to do if there is chaos somewhere. In
this light, the Election Commission and the Cultural Ministry must make TVCs or
documentaries."
The press secretary said that the meeting discussed the securitysituation during the election in detail. The army has informed that about
92,500 members of the army and navy will be deployed during the election. Of
these, 90,000 will be army members, and the rest will be navy members. In
addition, there will be special preparations to deal with the law and order
situation 72 hours before the election and 72 hours after the election.
Regarding the appointment of field administration officers, he
said, "Even if they live in their own area or their in-laws' house, they
will not be posted there. Even if relatives stand for election in any area,
they will not be posted there." The Home Affairs Advisor said in the
meeting that a list of law enforcement officers has been prepared for 64
districts.
The chief advisor said that the most qualified people should be appointed to the most risky areas. It has been decided not to keep the officials who held the positions of DC, ADC, Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Magistrate in the last three elections in this election.
The Chief Advisor's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that those working on
the recent interview of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina need to remember
her past activities.
He said, "No one has committed a bigger murderer or human
rights violation than Sheikh Hasina in the 21st century." When a
journalist asked the government's position on publishing Sheikh Hasina's
interview in foreign media, Shafiqul Alam said that the International Crimes
Tribunal (ICT) can comment on the matter. He added that the government has not
yet read the interview; it will comment after reading it.
Shafiqul Alam said that those who are interviewing her should
not forget her past activities. The UN report clearly states that Sheikh Hasina
violated her human rights. He also said that two international media reports
have also raised allegations against Sheikh Hasina that she ordered murders.
Earlier on Wednesday, the UK-based The Independent,
international news agency Reuters and AFP published interviews with Sheikh
Hasina.
Asked whether the current government had any concerns about the possibility of
boycotting the vote if the Awami League was not given a chance, the press
secretary said they did not see any problem with it.
He said, "We don't see the Awami League anywhere. A couple
of quick marches. Some people might get a couple of dollars based on those,
that's all." Shafiqul Alam said, a local media report has shown that a
claim made by the Awami League at the International Criminal Court (ICC) does
not mention Sheikh Hasina's horrific human rights violations, which he called
'unfortunate'.
